HCO: General Update, RoRo in Country

Haitian Christian Outreach is adapting to meet the needs of suffering people in the heart of the earthquake zone.

It has been a very difficult and emotional day for all of us. RoRo flew to the Dominican Republic yesterday and left early this morning for Port-au-Prince. He contacted me from the border area and beyond. We have talked several times. He uses words like “deplorable, overwhelming and beyond words” to describe the situation. They found thousands of refugees in the border area. Some aid, but no translators. They worked there for several hours. Among the refugees are several of our church members, including Pastor Eli along with his daughter who is injured. RoRo made arrangements to get them across the border and sent them to a Dominican hospital, giving them money to pay for the care of both Pastor Eli’s (Pastor Eli has been serving with us in Port-au-Prince) daughter and one other young person.

Ro entered Port-au-Prince at 4:30, stopping briefly to check on his house. It has damage but is standing. He should be at the church now. We will have more news tomorrow.

I have been working to schedule medical teams into Haiti to set-up field hospitals. Late this morning a corporate sponsor offered to fly a team of 19, including Ginny Andrews, to Port-au-Prince. Ten will go tomorrow morning. The second half of the team will go in on Friday.. I am working on a second team of physicians, nurses, technicians and supplies to go in on Saturday. We will are already working on a follow-up team for next week.

Funds are coming in and we are grateful. If you want to contribute or assist us in raising funds go to Haitian earthquake relief. If you want to work on collecting things for Haiti, please correspond with Todd Beavers @ tbeavers12@gmail.com. If you want to volunteer to go to Haiti in the future please send me an email and I will direct it accordingly. We will get back to you as quickly as we can. Please continue to pray and keep this need in front of people. This will be a marathon, not a sprint..

The need is overwhelming, but our God is sufficient. Ephesians 3.20,21

Thank you again for your ongoing support.
